Technical Writer and Editor

Ovoco is building a team of technical writers and editors to support federal program documentation needs.

You would produce and edit technical documents including system design documents, SOPs, user guides, training materials, CM plans, and program deliverables. Work may also include editing proposal volumes.

The Work

  • Write, edit, and format technical documents including design docs, test plans, user guides, and SOPs
  • Ensure deliverables comply with agency style guides, formatting standards, and Section 508 accessibility
  • Edit content from engineers and SMEs for clarity, consistency, and technical accuracy
  • Develop and maintain document templates and style guides
  • Manage version control, review cycles, and approval workflows
  • Produce publication-ready documents for government delivery
  • Support proposal efforts with technical editing and desktop publishing as needed

What We Are Looking For

  • 3 or more years of technical writing or editing on federal or defense programs
  • Experience producing documentation that meets government delivery standards (CDRLs, DIDs)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word including advanced styles, templates, and cross-references
  • U.S. citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, FrameMaker, or LaTeX
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements
  • Background in IT documentation (system architectures, CMDB designs, ITSM processes)
  • STC certification or equivalent

Public Trust required. Active Secret or Top Secret preferred for DoD work.

How It Works

You work as a 1099 independent consultant. You set your own rate and choose engagements that fit your availability. Ovoco handles the client relationships, contracts, scoping, and business development. You deliver the work.

Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience. Rates are negotiated per engagement based on scope, duration, and clearance requirements.
