Configuration Management Specialist
Ovoco seeks experienced configuration management specialists to support federal program engagements.
You would establish and maintain configuration management processes, baselines, and documentation on federal IT and systems engineering programs. This role combines traditional CM disciplines with modern tooling and CMDB practices.
The Work
- Establish and maintain CM plans, policies, and procedures aligned with EIA-649, MIL-STD-973, ITIL, and NIST
- Define configuration items, baselines, and naming conventions for hardware, software, and documentation
- Manage configuration control boards and change management processes
- Perform configuration status accounting and produce reports on baseline status and change activity
- Conduct configuration audits (functional and physical) to verify products match approved documentation
- Implement and maintain CM tooling (Jira, ServiceNow, iTop) to support CM processes
- Coordinate with systems engineering, development, testing, and program management teams
What We Are Looking For
- 5 or more years of configuration management experience on federal or defense programs
- Working knowledge of EIA-649, MIL-STD-973, or ITIL configuration management
- Experience managing configuration control boards and change management
- Proficiency with CM tools such as Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow
- U.S. citizenship
Preferred Qualifications
- CMPIC or equivalent CM certification
- Experience on DoD programs with DCMA oversight
- Familiarity with CMDB design and implementation
- Experience with software configuration management including Git
Active Secret clearance required for most engagements. TS or TS/SCI preferred.

You work as a 1099 independent consultant. You set your own rate and choose engagements that fit your availability. Ovoco handles the client relationships, contracts, scoping, and business development. You deliver the work.
Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience. Rates are negotiated per engagement based on scope, duration, and clearance requirements.
